Lend Lease Breakers complete perfect weekend against ACT

A Player of the Match performance by Ellyse Perry has taken the Lend Lease Breakers to a 27 run win over the ACT Meteors in their second Women’s T20 match at Blacktown International Sportspark this morning.

The Breakers went into this match looking to complete a perfect start to the season after comfortably winning their opening T20 and 50 over matches on Friday and Saturday respectively.

Both of those games were played on the Blacktown International Sportspark No.1 Oval, however, today’s fixture was moved to the No.2 ground with the new pitch providing some extra assistance for the bowlers.

Bowling first, ACT quick Nicola Browne made the most of the conditions by winning her battles against Alyssa Healy (5) and Leah Poulton (27) with both openers falling to short deliveries.

Coming together with the scoreboard reading 2-37, Alex Blackwell (26) and Ellyse Perry put NSW back in control with a 46 run third wicket stand before Blackwell was caught on the long-off boundary.

Perry went on to finish unbeaten on 47 from 43 balls, including four fours and a six, with Rachael Haynes making 19 off 17 balls as the Lend Lease Breakers posted a challenging total of 4-141 from their 20 overs.

This was always going to be a difficult chase on a lively wicket and Perry made life just that little bit harder for the ACT by dismissing both their openers, Sarah Hungerford (5) and Kate Pulford (15), inside the four over mark.

Kara Sutherland then claimed the wicket of Sara McGlashan (6), who was well caught by Alex Blackwell at mid-off, before Erin Osborne bowled Rhiannon Dick without scoring.

Sarah Aley added a further nail to the ACT coffin by running out Kris Britt (20) to leave the visitors 5-59 in the 11th over.

Nicole Browne (20) and Rene Farrell (28) provided a brief resurgence with the pair adding 38 runs in six overs before Browne attempted to slog-sweep Rachael Haynes for six, only to be brilliantly caught by a diving Erin Osborne on the mid-wicket boundary.

The loss of the New Zealand all-rounder proved a fatal blow to the ACT challenge, with the Meteors chase ending in the 20th over with the score on 9-114

Ellyse Perry was named Player of the Match for her double of 47 not out and 3-20 off three overs.

Kara Sutherland (1-11), Erin Osborne (1-8), Rachael Haynes (1-20) and Nicola Carey (1-22) were the other wicket takers for the Lend Lease Breakers.

The Lend Lease Breakers will play their next round of matches against the Queensland Fire in Brisbane (October 24-26).
