Australian cricket captain Ricky Ponting has been appointed as the Global Ambassador of The International Cricket Hall of Fame which is currently under construction at the Bradman Oval in Bowral, 90 km south of Sydney. 

The $7 million interactive cricket exhibition is being built by The Bradman Foundation, a not-for-profit charitable trust set up in 1987 with the support of Sir Donald Bradman to promote cricket as a cultural and sporting force in Australia and internationally.

It will feature a wide range of state-of-the-art interactive displays unlike any other cricket museum, making it a unique and dynamic way to experience the science, history and great moments of cricket worldwide. Central to the visitor experience will be more than 100 exclusive interviews with players, both past and present highlighting their personalities, attitudes, lifestyles and cricket experiences.

As captain of the national test team, Ponting will help promote The International Cricket Hall Of Fame to people of all ages and backgrounds. He will draw on his experiences as Australia’s current and most successful captain to bring the story of cricket to the world.

Ricky Ponting says: “The International Cricket Hall of Fame will be a high quality, interactive showcase of the game based in Sir Donald Bradman’s home town of Bowral. As well as promoting cricket’s rich history, values and tradition The International Cricket Hall of Fame will serve to promote and inspire young people to participate in the sport. If the game is to flourish in the future it must be played in the right spirit. Upholding Sir Don Bradman’s values like determination, courage, integrity and humility will be central to the game’s long term success and I am delighted to be involved.”

Michael Ball, AM Chairman of The Bradman Foundation, says: “Ricky Ponting is the ideal Global Ambassador and will help people identify with the game and its traditions from a modern perspective.

“Other local Australian and overseas ambassadors will be appointed to assist in delivering Sir Donald Bradman’s message that cricket is one of the greatest character builders of all sports,” Michael Ball added.

Former Australian captain Richie Benaud OBE is the patron of The International Cricket Hall of Fame, and Board directors include former Prime Minister, John Howard AC, the head of News Corporation in Australia, John Hartigan, former Wallaby coach, Bob Dwyer AM, the CEO of the SCG Trust, Jamie Barkley, CEO and Managing Director of Macquarie Bank, Richard Sheppard, CEO of Citigroup, Stephen Roberts and former member of the NSW Parliament and academic, Dr Peta Seaton.

“The fit-out is now well underway under the direction of our Executive Officer Rina Hore and curator David Wells. We’re looking forward to opening our doors to the public in November this year.”

The existing Bradman Museum is continuing to operate throughout construction of The International Cricket Hall Of Fame.
