With the added excitement of the whole competition being shown for the first time on Network Ten, members and fans can look forward to an array of exciting fixtures that will see star signing Mike Hussey take the field with a re-vamped Thunder squad that is looking to make an impact.
The season kicks off on Saturday 21 December with a local ‘derby’ against rivals the Sydney Sixers at the SCG. The match will mark Mike Hussey’s first appearance in Thunder colours and will see former Sixers Daniel Hughes and Kurtis Patterson return to play against their former club.
The Thunder’s first home match will be a cracker, with the Adelaide Strikers visiting ANZ Stadium on Friday 27 December. Former South Australian Cam Borgas will look forward to reminding his former State of what they are missing on a night that will be perfect for families wishing to continue the cricket theme during the Xmas holidays.
New Year’s Day will see a blockbuster match-up with the star-studded Melbourne Stars visiting ANZ Stadium, with a chance for Thunder members and fans to watch one of the most talked about teams in the BBL.
Two days later on Friday 3 January, a big moment will occur with Mike Hussey returning to face his former team, the Perth Scorchers at the WACA. This will be one of the most eagerly awaited games of BBL|03.
Next up is a visit by the current KFC T20 Big Bash League champions, the Brisbane Heat, to ANZ Stadium to face the Thunder on Wednesday 8 January and three days later on the 11th the Thunder make the trip to the noisy Blundstone Arena to take on the talented Hobart Hurricanes.
A tough period of fixtures then sees the Thunder head to Etihad Stadium to take on last season’s dark horses, the Melbourne Renegades, on Tuesday 14 January.
Then the big one to finish the regular season with the Sixers visiting the ‘Thunderdome’ at ANZ Stadium on Saturday 25 January, in what promises to be an exciting end to the season.
