The Sydney Thunder have pulled off a significant coup with the signing of one of the best young wicketkeeper-batsmen in the land in Fairfield-Liverpool’s Jake Doran. Jake is the younger brother of current Thunder spin bowler Luke Doran.

The 16 year-old Doran this season became the youngest player ever to be selected for the NSW 2nd X1, beating the record of Doug Walters set back in 1963.

Doran scored 61 not out to help the 2nd X1 to victory in that match and that form has seen him selected to represent the Cricket Australia Chairman’s X1 against England in a two-day match in Alice Springs, starting on November 29.

Doran, will also keep wicket in that match.

Doran, will be the Thunder’s ‘Development Rookie’ and will train with the squad throughout BBL|03.

The Thunder have also signed Jeremy Maher as their ‘Community Rookie’ for the coming season. Maher, a 19 year-old left-arm swing bowler from the Fairfield-Liverpool club, comes from a Thai background.

The Thunder start their campaign with the ‘Sydney Smash’ against the Sixers at the SCG on Saturday 21 December.
