NSW SpeedBlitz Blues wicketkeeper Peter Nevill has become the fastest wicketkeeper to reach 1000 runs in First class cricket for New South Wales.

On scoring 24 in the first innings of the current Bupa Sheffield Shield match against Tasmania at Blundstone Arena in Hobart, Nevill went to the top of a list that contains some outstanding wicketkeepers from the past.

Nevill, reached 1000 runs in his 19th First class match for New South Wales and his 29th innings. Brad Haddin had originally reached the landmark in his 19th match but during his 35th innings.

The previous fastest in terms of number of innings was Andy Ratcliffe, who reached 1000 runs in his 34th innings (one faster than Haddin).

Other interesting comparisons include :

Billy Murdoch (First class span 1875 – 1904), was significantly faster to 1000 runs, but was not always wicket-keeper and did not score 1000 runs while holding that position.

Peter is faster to 1000 First class runs than Mark Waugh (20 matches / 32 innings) and only just behind Steve Waugh (18 matches / 28 innings).
