Pat Cummins, one of the most exciting pace bowlers in the country, returns to western Sydney after signing for the Sydney Thunder for BBL|04.
The paceman, who is still only 21, played his Grade cricket for the Penrith club in Sydney, before bursting onto the domestic scene with some superb performances for New South Wales. He made his debut for the Blues in the KFC Big Bash as a 17 year old, taking 11 wickets at 14.09 in his first season and followed this up with his Test debut against South Africa in November of that year, where he took seven wickets in the match, in addition to hitting the winning runs with Australia 8 wickets down.
Cummins, returns to Sydney after two seasons with the Perth Scorchers and is looking forward to the opportunity of playing in front of Thunder fans: “It will be fun to come back to the area that I grew up in and play in front of the cricket fans of western Sydney. I am excited with the way the Thunder has recruited and with the overall vision of the club and I’m looking forward to contributing to the team in BBL|04. It is an exciting time for the Thunder as there were promising signs last season that showed that they are close to getting the results that the team is capable of.”
Thunder General Manager Nick Cummins was delighted with the signing: “ To get a player of Pat’s ability is great news for Thunder fans. He is a quality young man, who is one of the best fast bowlers in the country and is a proven performer in the T20 format of the game. I know that he is looking forward to returning to Sydney and he is a great fit for the strategy that we have going forward in terms of recruiting quality players who have come from our heartland.”
Cummins’ signing coincides with Sydney Thunder memberships going on sale today. This year memberships are fully transferrable for the first time.
