The Lend Lease Breakers have comfortably defeated the ACT Meteors by nine wickets with 35 balls to spare in their opening Women’s T20 match of the season played at Blacktown International Sportspark today (October 10).
ACT captain Kris Britt won the toss and elected to bat first, hoping her team would get off to a flyer on a perfect batting wicket.
However, it was the Lend Lease Breakers who enjoyed the better start with Sarah Coyte producing a maiden in the first over.
Off-spinner Erin Osborne then snared the wickets of Kate Pulford (0) and Sara Hungerford (0) with consecutive deliveries in the second over.
With the scoreboard reading 2-0, Britt immediately went on the counter attack with her 74 runs off 63 deliveries the only highlight as the Meteors reached 8-118 at the end of their 20 overs.
Sarah Coyte finished with the outstanding figures of 1-6 from four overs, as well as the Player of the Match award.
Erin Osborne (2-27), Sarah Aley (1-15) and Nicola Carey (1-10) were the other wicket takers while there were also three run outs.
NSW made light work of the run chase with a 78 run first wicket stand between Leah Poulton and Alyssa Healy quickly putting the match beyond the ACT’s reach.
Poulton was the main aggressor, smashing 50 off 38 balls before being bowled by New Zealand all-rounder Nicola Browne in the 10th over, while Healy finished unbeaten on 51 from 37 deliveries.
They each hit seven fours and a six during their stays at the crease.
The Lend Lease Breakers and ACT Meteors will meet again tomorrow (October 11) in a Women’s National Cricket League 50 over match starting at 10am, with a second T20 game scheduled for Sunday morning (October 12, 10am).
Entry to both matches is free.
