Jake Doran just misses out on becoming youngest First Grade centurion

Fairfield-Liverpool’s star youngster, batsman Jake Doran, just missed out on achieving a major milestone in Grade cricket on Saturday. Doran, who is the 16 year-old younger brother of NSW SpeedBlitz Blues spinner Luke Doran, was 89 not out when Fairfield declared against Sydney University. He thus failed to beat Archie Jackson’s record of having scored a First Grade hundred aged 16 years and 133 days in 1925-26. Unfortunately, Fairfield went on to lose the match by 7 wickets.

In other news Australian bowler Pat Cummins returned to the field for Penrith, but only as a batsman, as he scored 23, batting at number seven, in Penrith’s loss to Northern District.

There were centuries to Mitch Gowland (UNSW – 100), John DiBartolo (Wests – 114), Matt Hughston (Sutherland – 107) and Mark Faraday (Sydney Uni – 147no), while for the bowlers Jay Dyball (Hawkesbury – 6-42), Lachlan O’Connor (Wests – 5-50), Nathan Fitzgerald (Sutherland – 5-78), Nic Bills (Nth Sydney – 5-52) and Daniel Jackson (Parramatta – 5-64) all starred.

The final round of qualifying will take place next week with all grades playing one-day matches.
