The Lend Lease Breakers defeated Tasmania by eight wickets in today’s Women’s T20 clash at Blacktown International Sportspark, with Player of the Match, Alyssa Healy, hitting an unbeaten half-century.
As they did in yesterday’s 50 over match, Tasmania won the toss and elected to bat first, posting 4-127.
Their openers put on 89 runs in 16 overs, with Carly Ryan making 51 and Emma Thompson 45. Erin Burns accelerated the scoring over the last few overs before eventually being caught on the boundary for 21 off 12 balls.
NSW lost their first wicket in the sixth over with the score on 39, when Leah Poulton was trapped lbw for 22. Alyssa Healy and captain, Alex Blackwell, then put on 62 runs for the second wicket, with the partnership only broken by a terrific low-down catch by Veronica Pyke at mid-wicket to remove Blackwell for 33.
The loss of the skipper was a minor hiccup as Healy ensured the Lend Lease Breakers got over the line. She struck a four to win the game in the 18th over while also raising her half-century in the process, finishing on 53 not out from 49 deliveries.
Today’s win maintains the Lend Lease Breakers’ perfect start to the season. They have now won seven straight WT20 games and four straight WNCL matches.
