A couple of entertaining half-centuries from Alyssa Healy and Alex Blackwell set up the Lend Lease Breakers’ 64 run win over the ACT Meteors in their opening match of the 2012/13 Women’s T20 competition, played this afternoon at Blacktown International Sportspark.
ACT captain, Kris Britt, won the toss and elected to bowl first – a decision which would come back to haunt her as Alyssa Healy and Leah Poulton piled on 81 runs for the first wicket in 12 overs.
Both batters were in a particularly aggressive mood. Poulton hit 29 from 40 balls while Player of the Match Healy picked up where she left off after the World T20, striking eight fours in her 55 runs from 36 deliveries.
Alex Blackwell ensured a big finish to the innings by swatting boundaries at will in her 58 not out from 31 balls, with seven fours and two sixes. The Lend Lease Breakers finished their allotted overs with an imposing 4-166.
In the field, Ellyse Perry struck early by removing the big hitting Asha Smith for duck, with Kris Britt run out a few overs later with the score on 27.
From here the ACT struggled to build partnerships, with wickets falling regularly as they chased quick runs. They finished their 20 overs at 8-102.
For the Lend Lease Breakers, Lisa Sthalekar (2-21) and Ellyse Perry (2-11) were the multiple wicket takers, with Nicola Carey (1-12), Erin Osborne (1-14) and Angela Reakes (1-14) taking one each.
