Peerless cricketer and commentator Richie Benaud OBE has become the latest Bradman Honouree at the 2015 Bradman Gala Dinner, which was at the SCG on November 11.

The long-serving Patron of the Bradman Foundation until his death at 84 in April, Richie Benaud was instrumental in establishing the memorable ceremonial program for which the gala is renowned.

Until he was beset by ill-health, Richie traditionally selected, prepared and took to the stage to read the citation of the Bradman Honourees ‒ the prestigious award issued annually to players who have made significant contributions to the international game, while reflecting Sir Donald Bradman’s values of courage, honour, integrity, humility and determination.

Richie’s widow, Mrs Daphne Benaud, was the guest of honour.

Past Honourees are:
2006 Norm O’Neill OAM
2007 Neil Harvey MBE, Sam Loxton OBE
2008 Bill Brown OAM, Arthur Morris MBE
2009 Alan Davidson AM MBE, Dennis Lillee AM MBE
2010 Sunil Gavaskar, Adam Gilchrist AM
2011 Sir Richard Hadlee MBE, Bob Simpson AO
2012 Rahul Dravid, Glenn McGrath AM
2013 Mark Taylor AO
2014 Steve Waugh AO, Sachin Tendulkar AM
2015 Richie Benaud OBE

The Foundation had an exceptional attendance of present and former Test players, including past Bradman Honourees and Richie’s media colleagues and many admirers.
Guests included the Foundation’s business partners and sponsors and loyal supporters from the worlds of commerce, the law, politics and sport.

The evening commenced at 5:30pm with canapés and drinks served on the SCG field, so beloved by Benaud and Bradman, and was followed by a three-course gourmet meal with selected wines in the MA Noble Stand dining room.

The highlight of the evening was an extensive and collective tribute to Benaud from the Bradman Foundation, Channel 9’s Wide World of Sports and the Sydney Cricket and Sports Ground Trust.

Thank you to our Platinum Partners, Link Group for contributing to a successful 2015 Bradman Gala Dinner.

The Bradman Foundation would also like to thank Harvey Norman for being such great contributors to the night, Jane Clifford for attending the event with her guests, and also Sandersons Rushcutters Bay for being long standing generous contributions.
