With tickets to 2013-14 Australian international season going on sale tomorrow, Shane Watson, Mitchell Starc and James Faulkner visited the Ashes Urn at Lord’s Cricket Ground to help remind Aussie cricket fans of the importance of showing their support at home venues this summer.
While the team’s immediate focus is the battle to return the urn in England, Watson said he was looking forward to playing in front of a home crowd this summer and urged fans to get in early when tickets go on sale around Australia tomorrow, 17 July 2013.
“A home Ashes is as big as it gets. There are few events in the Australian sporting calendar that evoke as much passion and rivalry as The Ashes, so fans will need to act quickly when tickets go on sale if they want to experience it live this summer,” said Watson.
“Now more than ever we want Aussie fans to get to the ground to cheer us on.”
The Ashes Urn may be small in stature but Faulkner is well aware of the high importance in reclaiming cricket’s most sought after prize.
“As a boy you dream of playing in a home Ashes Series and for me it is exciting to be a part of the squad and I’ll make sure I’m ready to go if the selectors tap me on the shoulder,” said Faulkner.
“This is only the second time ever that back-to-back Ashes Series will be held and we’ll need every ounce of home support to knock over England in the three forms of the game.
“Currently the overall Ashes score between Australia and England is 61 – 60 in our favour. It is incredible to think that since 1882 and after 121 battles, one of the fiercest rivalries in world sport is that close.”
The rivalry between Australia and England will continue after the Commonwealth Bank Ashes Series with the Carlton Mid One Day Series and KFC T20 INTL Series starting in January, 2014.
The Carlton Mid One Day Series will bring back Summer’s Biggest Dress Up Party and also mark the start of preparations for the Australian team as it gets ready to host the 2015 ICC World Cup the following summer. The KFC T20 INTL matches could see an influx of young families in the stands as the new Bring the Kids For Free* incentive is launched.
Tickets for the 2013-14 International Summer of Cricket, including the Commonwealth Bank Ashes Series, Carlton Mid One Day International Series and KFC T20 INTL Series, go on sale to the public on Wednesday 17 July 2013 from 9.00am local time in all states except Victoria.
