Carters, 24, joins the Sixers on a one year deal, and brings with him his Batting For Change initiative aimed at raising funds to put Indian women through schooling.

In his first season in magenta, Carters has recruited the likes of Brad Haddin, Steve Smith, Moises Henriques and Steve O’Keefe to his campaign in which he’ll ask Sixers fans and partners to pledge money for every six the Sixers hit this season.

His aim is to raise $66,000, enough to put around 100 women through tertiary education in India.

“Every six we hit will hopefully raise $1000 or maybe $2000 for this charity and by the end of the season we can make a big difference to these young women’s lives,” said Carters of the initiative.

Of joining the Sixers, Carters is delighted to be pulling on the Magenta.

“It feels fantastic to be joining the Sixers,” said Carters.

“I’m very pleased to make the switch (from the Thunder) and the Sixers seem to have a really great winning culture, they’ve got a great coach, a great team and a really great home ground.

“The boys seem to have a lot of fun when they play, and they play very good, hard cricket so I think all of those things will add up to a successful season.”

Sixers General Manager Dom Remond believes Carters is a great fit for the SCG based team.

“Ryan is a thinking man’s cricketer with a real thirst for bettering himself and those around him,” said Remond.

“He’s confident but humble, a great mix for a professional athlete, and his Batting For Change initiative shows how he considers the environment around him, both on and off the field.

“He’ll be a great asset for our team.”
