Defending champions, the Lend Lease Breakers, defeated the ACT Meteors by seven wickets in their first Women’s National Cricket League (WNCL) match for the season at Blacktown International Sportspark, securing a valuable bonus point in the process.
Chasing the ACT’s total of 9-202, the Lend Lease Breakers lost an early wicket with Leah Poulton brilliantly caught by Rhiannon Dick for a duck.
However, the home side quickly took the game away from the opposition thanks to an 83 run second wicket partnership between Alex Blackwell and Rachael Haynes.
Having also passed 50 in a T20 match the previous day, Blackwell continued her terrific form by smashing 51 from just 40 balls with nine fours and one six.
In doing so she also raised her 3000th WNCL career run, becoming just the fourth NSW player to achieve that mark behind Belinda Clark, Lisa Keightley and Lisa Sthalekar, and just the seventh player overall.
Rachael Haynes was also in great touch, earning the Player of the Match award for her 64 runs from 67 balls, with 10 fours. Alyssa Healy remained unbeaten on 50 from 50 balls with Lisa Sthalekar 29 not out from 23 deliveries.
Earlier in the day, the ACT Meteors won the toss and elected to bat first, posting 9-202 from 50 overs. Captain Kris Britt top scored with 54 with Lynsey Askew hitting 37.
Erin Osborne was the pick of the Lease Breakers bowlers with 3-20 from 10 overs, with Sharon Millanta the other multiple wicket taker with 2-33 from 10.
