The Sixers will welcome home to Sydney paceman Doug Bollinger this summer after he joined the Club on a two year deal.
Having played for cross town rivals the Sydney Thunder before heading down to the Hobart Hurricanes for the past two seasons, Doug’s return to Sydney, and donning of the Magenta, will see him combine with a number of NSW team mates including Mitch Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Trent Copeland.
Most interesting though may be his partnership with fellow veteran Brett Lee as the two will spearhead a strong bowling attack for the Sixers.
Coach Trevor Bayliss said the signing was popular one for the Club.
“Doug has a lot of T20 experience having also played a number of seasons in the IPL and he is a wholehearted bowler which makes him a crowd favourite,” said Bayliss.
“He’s now an experienced bowler who enjoys his role as the leader of the NSW bowling lineup.”
On joining the Sixers, Bollinger noted being near family as his main reason for coming back home.
“I’ve been away over the winter and wanted to be home with the family over Christmas, and over the summer it’s a pretty good place to be,” said Bollinger.
“The Sixers are a quality team and a quality side and they’re always a team that’s in the top 3 so it’s good to be joining those guys and playing with them year round (in addition to the Blues).
“It’s good to be around all the young guys and it keeps me trying to keep up with them and trying to help them along the way. Blokes like Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc, it’s good to try to help them and teach them what I’ve learnt so that’s a very exciting part of being a part of the Sixers.”
Sixers General Manager Dom Remond said Bollinger was a good fit for the squad.
“Doug brings experience and energy to our squad and is a valuable addition,” said Remond.
“He’s a fun guy with a huge amount of talent and knowledge and will provide some great entertainment on the field for our Members and fans.”
