“Backyard Ashes is an exciting, feel good film that showcases some of Australia’s most acclaimed actors and filmmakers as well as introducing our up and coming stars. We are thrilled with the success of the national regional release and are so excited to share this brilliant Australian story with the Bowral audience. Australian’s love seeing their own stories and experiences on screen and you don’t get more Australian than a match of Backyard Cricket!” says Director Mark Grentell.
Pre-booked tickets for general oval admission ($5 + booking fee) can be purchased online at www.bradman.com.au or by calling the Bradman Centre on 4862 1247. Tickets will be on sale at the gate on the night for $10.
Mark Grentell’s debut feature film Backyard Ashes stars Gold Logie winner John Wood (Blue Heelers), Andrew S Gilbert (Kiss or Kill), Felix Williamson (The Great Gatsby), and comedian Damian Callinan (Spicks and Specks). Beautifully shot by cinematographer Damian Wyvill (The Great Gatsby, Goddess) and produced by Anne Robinson (West, The Party Garden), the film is a brilliant story of legendary characters and community spirit which shines through in an exciting match of backyard cricket.
The story revolves around the loveable Dougie Waters. He enjoys nothing more than a backyard barbie and match of cricket with his mates. Unexpectedly his paradise is destroyed when his best friend and neighbour is forced to move house, replaced by his pompous English boss Edward Lords. The “Aussie vs Pom” animosity is sparked when Dougie hits a tennis ball that accidentally stuns Edward’s prize winning cat, Dexter, who falls into the roaring hot BBQ and is instantly incinerated, leaving only ashes. When the two cannot settle their differences they compete in the biggest backyard cricket test match of the century, the Backyard Ashes…with the winner keeping the cats ashes!
What better place to watch Backyard Ashes than Bradman Oval. The screening will be opened at 8:00pm on Saturday, 15 Feb at Bradman Oval by the director Mark Grentell.
