A man of the match five wicket haul to Mitch Starc – his first bag in ODI cricket – has helped Australia to a four wicket win over Pakistan in the first ODI in Sharjah tonight.
After winning the toss Pakistan elected to bat first, however it was the visitors who got on top early taking three early wickets as Pakistan slipped to 3-40. A middle-order rally from the Akmal brothers wasn’t enough to stop Starc who ended up with 5-42 (10 overs), while James Pattinson also snared 3-19 as Pakistan were bundled out for 198 in 45.1 overs.
In reply, Australia stumbled early but found a way to hang in the match thanks to 66 from Michael Clarke and an unbeaten 57 to George Bailey who steered the side home with 10 balls to spare.
Details on where audio from Starc speaking after the match can be found below.
Please note, the Australian team travel from Dubai to Abu Dhabi tomorrow and WILL NOT train. Details of Thursday’s media opportunity will be advised tomorrow.
Pakistan all out 198 in 45.1 overs (Starc 5-42, Pattinson 3-19, Johnson 1-43, Christian 1-37) defeated by Australia 6-199 in 48.2 overs (Clarke 66, Bailey 57*, Maxwell 38)
